Unfortunately we don’t know much more than this is my great grandfather, William Bertie Curtis standing beside a triple expansion steam engine.

The engine was made at A G Mumford Culver Street works in Colchester, where my grandfather was an engineer for some of his career.
What a lovely keepsake to have! 🙂 🙂 ‘Home’ tomorrow? Safe trip and see you next Wednesday.

Thank you 😀. We should be flying Sunday but all up in air as MrB unwell. Make decision tonight I guess.

Don’t think so. Am heading off shortly to Somerset to collect Mum for flight, and antibiotics have been prescribed so fingers crossed will be able to fly tomorrow.

This is a fabulous Square, Becky. I love old photographs. Your Great Grandfather looks very proud standing beside the steam engine. The young chap kneeling doesn’t seem too pleased to have been taken away from his work for a mere photograph. A great peek into the past here! As I said… fabulous!

So glad you like 😁 he does seem proud doesn’t he. Everyone’s reactions have inspired me to try and find out more next year.

I love this old photograph, and lovely you know who it is. Make sure you write it down, in years to come you don’t want stuff forgotten.

I know he worked on a sugar mill and a bridge in North Queensland.

Ooh a construction engineer. How wonderful. You might be able to find infrastructure he worked on 😊

Oh yes, Becky. Both the sugar mill and the bridge are still standing the test (and ravages) of time in North Queensland 🙂 I have seen both and often think of the hard work my great grandfather went to to build them – it was all hands on back then.

How wonderful, and yes incredible what they achieved with the tools they had.
